What a week.....

We made the 4hr road trip to Auckland last weekend. Went down on Friday, caught up with a few of Syds sisters before heading to my brothers house to settle in for the night.

Saturday was really busy. I had scrapped a page of Te Raupua - emailed it to a cake decorating shop in Auckland and they made it into edible icing for me. I think it turned out priddy cool. I was meant to bake a cake for it but ran out of time so I went to the supermarket, bought four little sponge cake (cheat lol ), put them all together, slapped the icing on, cheated again with a can/tin of whipped cream, sprinkled the little choc filled candies on and stuck some chocolate fingers around it. LOL I took a whole five minutes.... but that's about all the time I could spare because we had to get it to Syds sisters house and in the fridge. By the time we got there which was a 5 minute drive away, the cream had started melting. It was sooooo hot that day.

We had just pulled up into the driveway when another of Syds sisters was pulling out. We quickly put the cake into the fridge then I jumped into her car and off we went to yet another sisters baby shower at the Botanical Garden.  We played a couple of games, had some yummy snacks then I got a text from a cousin.

After excusing myself I rushed to the main entrance to meet my cousin Henry as we had planned for him to pick me up so that I could go to our family reunion meeting. It was sooooo awesome to see some of my family members who have just moved back from overseas.

When Henry dropped me off all the girls were just arriving back from the baby shower so that was good timing.

An hour later we were all set and ready for the main reason we were all together in Auckland. My brother in laws 60th birthday. That went really well and thinking of the food is making my mouth water right now. It was DELICIOUS!!!!!! The drinks afterwards was awesome too.... well judging by the time we got back to my brothers house.... it must have been awesome cause even when I drink I'm usually more than ready to go home by 10pm... 11pm at the latest lol but we got home just after 3am. I couldn't believe it.... and I didn't even have a hang over the next day..... everyone still can't believe that either after the different mixers and shots I was gobbling lol.

Anyway.... on Sunday Te Raupua turned 3 and his cousin Te Taiaha turn 5 so we had their cakes together while everyone was together. All of the kids enjoyed singing happy birthday and helping to blow out the candles.

By lunchtime we had to start on our trip home..... boy did it seem like a long one too... but we made it safe and sound and enjoyed the whole weekend with everyone :)

While we were down there we got some sad news.... Syd's cousin/really good mate/hunting mate had been killed in a car crash in Australia. That put a bit of a damper on things and we've sort of been in limbo since first hearing the news. Thank God for Facebook!!!! We've been able to keep updated by friends and family over there and hopefully they'll be bringing him home this weekend.

Syd has spent the whole week contacting all of their old Department of Conservation Hunting mates and at last count it looks like we will be hosting around 9 of them during the weekend until the funeral is over. I'm really looking forward to seeing my darling catching up with his old mates. There's a few that he hasn't seen for over 10 years so I see a photo shoot coming up :)

The news of the accident took my scrapping mojo from me too so I'm really hoping it finds it's way back by tomorrow at the latest because I need to get my LO done for the Capture Life Scrap Off at MLAS. Hmm... the last couple of paragraphs have given me a couple ideas.... so maybe it 'is' on it's way back :)

Here's a few pics of Te Raupua's cake :)

Here's the cake all melted and coming apart at the seems lol
Looking mighty proud of himself on the cake above

Hopefully I'll get better at blogging on a regular basis :)
